BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on mixed path as yellow metal prices retreating from all-time highs hit earlier this week, as the U.S. dollar ticked up ahead of U.S. jobs data and the Federal Reserve chief’s speech that could offer further insights into the interest rate outlook.
- Overall gold can move in range of 71400- 71800 while silver also can move in range of 84000 -85200.
- The minutes from the (Fed) meeting in July, you get the sense that the Fed is ready to cut rates… the Fed must now start to cut or else it will over tighten and end up hurting the economy unduly.
- The dollar index was up 0.2% after touching its lowest level since late December on Wednesday, following minutes from the Fed’s July 30-31 meeting that showed officials were strongly inclined toward a rate cut next month.
- Investors are now awaiting the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium starting Thursday, with Fed Chair Jerome Powell set to speak on Friday.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can move on mixed path as it can move range of 798-809. Copper prices declined as the union at Chile’s Escondida copper mine reached an agreement with BHP, averting the risk of a strike that could have disrupted global copper supplies.
- In July, China exported 70,006 tons of refined copper, significantly lower than the record 157,751 tons exported in June, due to reduced profitability in exports. The London Metal Exchange (LME) cash copper contract traded at a discount of over $100 per ton to the three-month contract, signalling ample near-term supply.
- Chinese physical copper demand has shown slight improvement in recent weeks as prices dropped 4.4% in June and 3.9% in July.
- Aluminium prices are trade higher as it may move in range of 225-229.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on weaker side as it may move in range of 6000-6130. A sharp sell-off in crude oil paused on Thursday after expectations of a rate cut by the Federal Reserve offset a bunch of weak economic data from the world’s two largest economies, the United States and China.
- WTI touched its lowest since early February on Wednesday after revised U.S. employment statistics showed fewer jobs than previously reported and weak economic data from China, the world’s second-largest economy.
- The Federal Reserve appeared to be on track for an interest rate cut in September after a “vast majority” of officials said such an action was likely, according to the minutes of the U.S. central bank’s July 30-31 meeting.
- Natural gas may trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 178-188.
