Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index opened with a huge gap on the higher side, traded sideways for most part of the session to settle at 25728 spot levels after adding 639 points on back of sentiments driven up move following India-US trade deal announcement.

Buying was seen across the board as Mid and Small cap indices too gained nearly 3% each. Majority of the sectoral indices, barring FMCG that settled on a flat note, were up in range 1.4% to 4.79%. Nifty Realty was the best performer, rose 4.79% followed by Financials, Pharma, Healthcare, Consumer Durables and Chemicals index that were up 3% to 4% each.

Nifty index settled above the key hurdles placed at 25500-25600 spot levels with a big gap-up opening. Going ahead, sustainability above 25600 spot levels will push it towards 25850-26000 spot levels in near term. Conversely, a fall below 25600 spot levels might drag it towards 25350-25100 spot levels in near term.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, all sectoral indices rose on short covering as Nifty, Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures shed around 8%, 15% 31.5% and 10.5% of open interest respectively.

All F&O sectors settled on a higher note. Amongst them, Automobile, FMCG, Oil & Gas and Textile stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions along with short covering among Banking, Capital Goods and Telecom stocks.

On option front, Nifty will start the new weekly contracts of the February series with a maximum position at 27000 CE and 25000 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 5236 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 2998 Cr and bought stocks futures worth Rs 6559 Cr. DIIs were too net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 1014 Cr.
