BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on subdued path as gold prices extended losses on Thursday due to an uptick in the dollar after the U.S. Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, as expected, and adopted a measured rhetoric on further policy easing.
- Overall Gold (Oct) can move in range of 109000-198000 while Silver (Dec) also can move in range of 125500-127500.
- The Fed reduced rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday and indicated it will steadily lower borrowing costs for the rest of this year.
- Fed Chair Jerome Powell characterised the policy action as a risk-management cut in response to the weakening labor market and the central bank is in a “meeting-by-meeting situation” regarding the outlook for interest rates.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on lower path as it can move in range of 896-908. Shanghai copper futures hit a more than one-week low on Thursday, falling for a third straight session, following a 25-basis-point interest rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve and higher supply from top consumer China.
- The most-traded copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange slipped below the key psychological level of 80,000 yuan ($11,252.23) per metric ton, down 1.05% to 79,870 yuan a ton.
- Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 255-261.while Zinc may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 275-282.
- China’s refined copper output in August jumped 15% year-on-year to near a record high level, official data showed.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade with lower path as it can move in range of 5550-5670. Oil prices were little changed on Thursday after the U.S. central bank lowered its key interest rate as widely expected, while an indication of more rate cuts before year-end raised the prospect of a demand boost spurred by falling borrowing costs.
- On the demand side, U.S. crude oil stockpiles fell sharply last week as net imports dropped to a record low while exports jumped to a near two-year high, showed data from the Energy Information Administration.
- However, a rise in distillate stockpiles by 4 million barrels, versus market expectations of 1 million barrels, raised concern about demand in the world’s top oil consumer, pressuring prices.
- Natural gas may move on mixed path as it can move in range of 266-276.
