BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on firm path as gold prices firmed on Monday, and hovered near a record high hit in the previous session, as investors sought refuge in the safe-haven asset after U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose fresh tariffs sparked concerns of a global trade war.
- Overall gold (Apr) can move in range of 845000-86000 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 94000-96000.
- Trump said during the weekend that he will announce new 25% tariffs on Monday on all steel and aluminum imports into the U.S., which would come on top of existing metals duties in another major escalation of his trade policy overhaul.
- Gold is considered a safe investment during economic and financial turmoil, but higher interest rates reduce the non-yielding asset’s appeal.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on positive path as it can move in range of 860-870.
- Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 255-258.while lead may also move in range of 176-183. Aluminum prices rose on Monday due to supply risks after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was set to impose new 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports.
- On Sunday, Trump said he will announce new 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports into the U.S., which would come on top of existing metals duties, in another major escalation of his trade policy overhaul.
- Trump also said he will announce reciprocal tariffs on Tuesday or Wednesday, to take effect almost immediately, applying them to all countries and matching the tariff rates levied by each country.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 6200-6350. Oil prices ticked higher on Monday even as investors weighed U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threat, this time on all steel and aluminium imports, which could dampen global economic growth and energy demand.
- Natural gas may trade on firm path as it can move in range of 290-315.
- Oil and gas traders are seeking waivers from Beijing for U.S. crude and liquefied natural gas imports. Trump said on Sunday that the U.S. is making progress with Russia to end the Ukraine war but declined to provide details about any communications he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Sanctions imposed on Russian oil trade on Jan. 10 disrupted Moscow’s supplies to its top clients China and India.
