Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended higher at 25419 spot levels after adding 76 points to its previous closing values.

Broader markets traded in line with the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices settled on a flat to positive note.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Amongst them, Metal index was the top performer, gained over 3% followed by Private Bank, Oil & Gas and Realty index that added 0.5 to 1%. On the other hand, FMCG, Pharma, Healthcare, IT and PSU bank index were down in range 0.5% to 1%.

Nifty index has reached the upper band price resistance of past couple of days trading range (25450 spot levels) that also coincide with its 6-month EMA on daily charts. A sustained trading above 25450 spot levels will be a positive development that might take it up to 25800-25900 spot levels. Conversely, 25300-25200 spot levels will act as immediate supports on the down side.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Nifty and Banknifty futures added 7.5% and 4.5% of open interest respectively as long buildup along with some short covering among Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures as both shed around 4% and 1% of open interest respectively.

On the sectoral front, Metal, Oil & Gas and Power stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions whereas some short buildup was seen among Cement, Infrastructure and Technology stocks.

On options front, put writing along with some call addition was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 25000 PE followed by 24000 PE and 26000 CE followed by 26500 CE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 394 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1763 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 5711 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2639 Cr.
