Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index kick started the week on a negative note, ended lower at 25960 spot levels, falling 226 points from its previous closing values.

Broader markets underperformed the benchmark by a big margin as Mid and Small cap index were down 1.83% & 2.61% respectively.

All sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in red. Amongst them, Nifty Realty was the worst hit, down 3.53% followed by PSU Bank and Media index that fell 2.81% & 2.73% respectively.

Nifty index formed quite a bearish candlestick on daily charts, completing right shoulder of Head and Shoulder formation on hourly charts having neckline support around 25900-25850 spot zone. Cross and sustenance below 25850 spot levels will push it towards 25700 spot levels in immediate near term. Conversely, it need to sustain above 26200 spot levels to nullify the said formation

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, all index futures moved downward on short buildup as Nifty, Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures added 8.4%, 18.3%, 3.6% and 4.7% of open interest respectively.

All F&O sectors settled on a negative note. Amongst them, FMCG, Infrastructure, Power and Realty stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions along with some long unwinding among Auto and Metal stocks.

On option front, call writing along with some put unwinding was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 25900 PE followed by 25500 PE and 26200 CE followed by 26100 CE. Options data for current week expiry is negative but oversold zone, indicating sell on rise structure for intraday.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 656 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 3442 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 1333 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2542 Cr.
