The board of directors at the diversified non-bank finance company Piramal Enterprises has approved its merger with wholly owned subsidiary Piramal Capital & Housing Finance (PCHFL), which will now be rechristened Piramal Finance. As a part of the merger consideration, for every share of Piramal Enterprises, shareholders will receive one equity share of PFL and subject to RBI's approval, one NCRPS (non-convertible non-cumulative nonparticipating redeemable preference share) of Rs 67 of PFL. The company expects the entire process to be completed in 9-12 months. The primary objectives for the consolidation is so that the group structure is simplified and shareholders can have direct access to the entire lending business.

Nifty Overview & Outlook
Benchmark Nifty index settled on a flat note at 22302 levels after a lackluster trading session.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap index settled higher by 0.98% & 0.57% respectively.
Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Oil & Gas, Auto and Metal index were at the top of the tally, gained over 1.50% each. On the other hand, Banking and Financial stocks were at the bottom of the tally.
Technically, Nifty index is still trading in an upward sloping channel (as mentioned in our previous post) having immediate supports around 22000-22100 levels and immediate resistance is placed around 22450-22500 zones. Going ahead, we expect markets to trade sideways in near term.
Derivatives Overview & Outlook
Yesterday, long buildup was seen in Nifty and Midcap Nifty futures with increase in open interest by 4% and 1.8% respectively. On the other hand, short buildup was seen in Banknifty and Finnifty futures with increase in open interest by 1.1% and 9.8% respectively.
Majority of sectoral indices settled higher. Amongst them, Auto, Capital Goods stocks witnessed addition of long positions, some short covering was seen among Media, Metal and Oil & Gas stocks whereas short buildup was seen in Banking and Finance stocks.
On options front, call writing was seen at multiple strikes along with put writing at multiple strikes and maximum positions are at 22800 CE closely followed by 22500 CE and 22000 PE. The quantum of call positions are significantly higher then the quantum of put positions indicating pressure on Nifty index in short term.
Institutional Trading Activity
Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 6669 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1892 Cr and bought stocks futures worth Rs 103 Cr. On the other hand, DIIs were net buyer in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 5929 Cr.
