Noel Tata, the chairman of Tata Trusts which holds the controlling stake in Tata Sons, was among those at the meeting. Venu Srinivasan and Darius Khambata, also Tata Trusts leaders, joined him.

The meeting follows a request by two Tata Trusts trustees seeking government intervention to resolve the internal rift, that has divided the conglomerate’s leadership into two camps — one led by Noel Tata and other by Mehli Mistry.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended on a flat note at 25108 spot levels after a volatile trading sessions where at one point it was up nearly 150 points.

Broader markets performed in line with the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices gained 0.47% & 0.31% respectively.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix and muted. Nifty Realty was the top gainer, rose just over 1% followed by Oil & Gas index that rose 0.49%. On the flip side, FMCG index fell 0.53%.

Technically, Nifty index took a halt around its price resistance of 25200-25250 spot levels as mentioned in our previous post. Going ahead, we maintain our bullish bias intact till it is holding above 24800 spot levels on closing basis. On the other hand, Banknifty and Finance pack look attractive post breakout from Inverted Head & Shoulder formation on daily charts and should be considered for fresh buying on dips till it is holding above 55600 levels on closing basis.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Finnifty futures added around 2% of open interest as long buildup along with some short covering among Nifty, Banknifty and Midcapnifty futures that shed around 1%, 5% and 2% of open interest respectively.

Majority of the F&O sectoral indices settled on a higher note. Amongst them, Automobile, Capital Goods, Finance and Oil &Gas stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions while some short buildup was seen in FMCG stocks.

On option front, Nifty will start the new weekly contract with maximum positions at 25000 PE and 25200 CE followed by 26000 CE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 1441 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 1549 Cr and sold stocks futures worth Rs 1567 Cr. DIIs were too net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 453 Cr.
