The White House on Thursday imposed a series of price floors and a 15% tariff ​on products made from polysilicon, the raw material used ​in semiconductors and solar panels that is primarily produced by China.

News highlights from across the globe

  • Treasury futures slipped as a rise in energy prices rekindled concerns that the Federal Reserve may have to keep interest rates higher for longer. The US 10-year Treasury yield held at 4.68% after rising seven basis points in the previous session.
  • Asian stock markets are trading mix on Friday as investors weighed another rise in crude oil prices amid uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz and awaited the U.S. jobs report for cues on the outlook for interest rates.
  • Oil extended gains after a report that Iran attacked “hostile targets” in the Strait of Hormuz, with Tehran seeking to bar US ships from the critical waterway in a deal with Oman. Brent rose above $83 a barrel.

  • LIC Q1 (YoY)- Net profit up 23% to Rs. 13,492 crore versus Rs. 10,987 crore. Net premium income up 7% to Rs. 1.27 lakh crore. Other income at Rs. 635 crore versus Rs. 130 crore. Overall APE up 8.2% to Rs. 13,692 crore. Group business APE up 10.2% to Rs. 6,160 crore. Solvency ratio at 2.42 versus 2.35 QoQ and 2.17 YoY. 13th-month persistency ratio at 70.4% versus 70.9%.
  • Britannia Q1 (YoY)- Net profit up 13.4% to Rs. 591 crore versus Rs. 521 crore. Revenue up 8.2% to Rs. 5,000 crore versus Rs. 4,622 crore. Ebitda up 11% to Rs. 840.4 crore versus Rs. 757.2 crore. Ebitda margin at 16.8% versus 16.4%
  • Lupin Q1 (YoY)- Net profit up 16% to Rs. 1,415 crore versus Rs. 1,219 crore. Revenue up 32% to Rs. 8,277 crore versus Rs. 6,268 crore. Ebitda up 50% to Rs. 2,463 crore versus Rs. 1,641 crore. Ebitda margin at 29.8% versus 26.2%.
  • Deepak Nitrite- Deepak Chem Tech commissioned its MIBK/MIBC plant at Dahej on August 6, 2026. The project involved a capex of about Rs. 735 crore.
  • Grasim Industries repaid Rs. 750 crore of commercial paper in full on August 6, 2026. Outstanding commercial paper is now nil.
  • Waaree Energies- Waaree Clean Energy Solutions incorporated WH Clean Mobility Systems on August 4, 2026, to focus on clean mobility solutions.
  • TVS Motor Company launched the TVS iQube in Kenya, becoming the first Indian OEM to introduce a premium electric scooter in Africa.
  • Persistent Systems launched a EUR 81 per share takeover offer for all Nagarro shares. The acceptance period runs until September 17, 2026.
  • CESC’s subsidiary Purvah received an LoA from SECI for a 175 MW wind project at a tariff of Rs. 3.85/kWh for 25 years.
  • Coal India declared the preferred bidder for the Gadadharpur iron ore block in Odisha, with estimated resources of 288 million tonnes.
  • Dabur India received a US FDA warning letter dated July 24, 2026, for its Silvassa plant. Domestic operations remain unaffected.
  • Grasim Industries issued a Letter of Awareness to ICICI Bank for Domsjo Fabriker AB, Sweden, relating to USD 39 million credit facilities. The letter does not create any repayment obligation, guarantee or financial commitment for Grasim.
  • Britannia Industries- appointed Sonny Iqbal as an Additional Independent Director for a five-year term from August 8, 2026.
  • JSW Energy- ICRA assigned an ICRA A Stable rating to the debt facilities of JSW Renewable Energy Dolvi Three Limited.
  • Religare Enterprises- Material subsidiary Care Health Insurance allotted Rs. 200 crore of 10% subordinated NCDs.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Nifty index traded in a thin range of just 75 points throughout the session to settle at 24636 spot levels well within the price resistance zone of 24600-24700 spot levels.

Performance on the broader front was mix as Mid cap index was down 0.44%, on the other hand, Small cap index was up 0.48%.

The majority of sectoral indices tracked at NSE ended in red. Among them, Nifty Auto, Media, Realty, Metal and IT index were down around 1% each. On the flip side, PSU Banks and Chemical index were up 2.20% & 1.30% respectively.

Going ahead, a decisive break above 24700 spot levels could lead it towards 24850 and higher levels in near term. Conversely, 24400 would continue to act as strong support on the downside and a fall below the same could drag it back to 24150-24050 spot levels in near term.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, long buildup was seen in Finnifty futures with an increase in open interest by around 6.5% along with some short covering in Nifty and Banknifty futures as both shed 3.5% and 3% of open interest respectively. On the other hand, no significant changes was observed in Midcapnifty futures on open interest front.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Amongst them, Metals, Power and Realty stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions, whereas some long buildup was seen in Capital Goods stocks.

On options front, put writing along with some call unwinding was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 25000 CE followed by 26000 & 24700 CE and 24000 PE followed by 24600 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 18 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 2254 Cr and also bought stocks futures worth Rs 242 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 4014 Cr.
