Japanese equities rise as Trump finalizes trade deal with 15% tariffs- Daily Market Update 5th Sept 2025

Japanese stocks climbed after President Donald Trump signed an executive order implementing his trade agreement with Japan, with a maximum 15% tariff on most of its products, including autos. Relief for aerospace and automobile imports will become effective within seven days, according to the executive order.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index opened with a big gap on the higher side amid GST revamp announcement by FM Nirmala Sitharaman but failed to hold at higher levels and finally settled on a flattish note at 24734 spot levels.

Broader markets underperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap index were down 0.67% & 0.71% respectively.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in red. Amongst them, IT, PSU Bank and Oil & Gas index were at the bottom of the tally, down around 1% each. On the flip side, Auto and Fin Services index posted some meaningful gains, rose 0.85% & 0.47% respectively.

Technically, Nifty index faced resistance around 50% retracement level of previous down move. Going ahead, it is likely to trade in a range 25100-24450 spot levels with negative bias. An either side break from this range will open the doors for next directional move.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Nifty futures added 2.76% of open interest as long buildup along with some short covering in Finnifty futures that shed around 1.5% of open interest, on the other hand, some short buildup was seen in Midcapnifty with increase in open interest by 1.25% while no significant changes was observed in Banknifty futures on price as well as on open interest front.

On option front, call writing along with some put unwinding was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum call positions are at 25000 CE followed by 24900 CE and 24500 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 11 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1073 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 2006 Cr. DIIs were also net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2171 Cr.
