Global Stock Market Today

  • US equity markets settled lower in range 0.34% to 1.55%.
  • European equity markets also ended lower in range 1.28% to 3.67%.
  • Majority of Asian equity markets are trading on a psoitive note.
  • GIFT Nifty is down by 45 points, Nifty futures likely to open around 22100 levels.

  • Stocks in the Asia Pacific region are trading mix in early trade on Wednesday, on the tariff relief signal after President Donald Trump sparked a global selloff.
  • Canada and China responded to Trump with retaliatory measures after the US decided to proceed with levies against Canada and Mexico on Tuesday. Meanwhile, China’s commerce ministry “strongly” opposed the tariff measures and “hoped” that the US would handle issues objectively and rationally.
  • Crude oil prices continued to trade lower as OPEC+ signalled plans to revive halted production along with hopes of ease in tariff measures.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index settled on a flat note at 22083 levels after a lackluster trading session.

On the broader front, Mid cap index traded in line with the benchmark, down 0.06%, on the other hand, Small cap index outperformed the benchmark, rose 0.69%.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Nifty Media was at the top of the tally, gained 2.37% followed by PSU Bank index that rose 1.56%. On the flip side, Auto and IT index led the declines, fell 1.31% & 0.90% respectively.

Going ahead, we reiterate our negative view on Nifty index till it is trading in lower lows lower highs formation. On levels front, supports for Nifty index is placed around 21800-21680 levels and resistance are placed around 22450-22550 zones.

 

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Nifty and Midcapnifty futures added 2.2% and 1.5% of open interest respectively as short buildup whereas short covering in Banknifty futures with decrease in open interest by 2.2%. On the other hand no meaningful activity were seen in Finnifty futures on open interest front.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Amongst them, Automobiles, FGCG and Technology stocks witnessed addition of short positions, whereas some long buildup was seen in Capital Goods, Finance, Infrastructure, Power and Realty stocks along with some short covering among Banking and Chemical stocks.

On options front, call writing along with some put writing was seen at multiple strikes and maximum positions are at 22500 CE and 21500 PE closely followed by 22000 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 3406 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 37 Cr and sold stocks futures worth Rs 2763 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 4851 Cr.
