India and the European Union are stepping up efforts to clinch their long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with a 40-member EU delegation of negotiators set to arrive in New Delhi on Thursday for another round of high-level talks. News highlights from across the globe

  • A gauge of the dollar was changed a bit after dropping 0.4% in the previous session that also saw US treasuries rise across the curve. This pushed two-year yields down to around 3.48%.
  • Asian stocks are trading mix, tracking gains in US peers after more evidence of a slowing job market boosted the case for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates next week. MSCI Inc.’s gauge of Asian equities rose 0.2%.
  • Oil prices are holding steady due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainties surrounding global supply and demand. West Texas Intermediate was near $59 a barrel.

 

Important news updates from the domestic front

  • Indian Energy Exchange: In the Nov. business update, company’s Electricity trade volume rose 17.7% year-on-year to 11,409 MU, while the real-time electricity market volume surged 40.2% year-on-year to 4,233 MU. The day-ahead market volume remained nearly flat at 5,668 MU year-on-year. The average real-time electricity market price increased 9.2% year-on-year to Rs 3.14 per unit.
  • Vedanta: NCLT approved the company’s Rs 545 crore resolution plan for Incab Industries.
  • City Union Bank: Opens new branch at Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital. Total number of branches is now at 901.
  • Petronet LNG: Entered 15-years ethane unloading, storage & handling services binding term sheet with ONGC.
  • Newgen Software Tech: Received Rs 13.9 crore order from Mercedez-Benz Financial Services India for loan management system.
  • Bajaj Auto: Appoints Aditya Makharia as Chief Product Officer.
  • OIL India: Arm Numaligarh Refinery received Navratna status from the Ministry of Finance.
  • ONGC: Government reappointed Arun Kumar Singh as chairman for One More Year Effective December 7.
  • JK Cement: Commissioned 3.3 Mn TPA clinker line-2 as part of 6 Mn TPA expansion plan. clinker capacity at panna plant Increases to 6.60 Mn TPA from 3.30 Mn TPA.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended slightly lower at 25986 spot levels with an indecisive Doji Candlestick after a cut of 46 points from its previous closing values.

Broader markets underperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices fell 0.98% & 0.71% respectively.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in red. Amongst them, PSU Bank index was the worst hit, down over 3% followed by Consumer Durables and Auto index that fell 1.57% & 1.20% respectively.

Positional chart structure is strong as long as Nifty is holding above 25800-25750 spot levels on closing basis and dips around the said support zone should be taken as a fresh buying opportunity. Sustenance above 26150 spot levels will reverse the swing direction in favour of prevailing uptrend that might take it towards its previous highs i.e. 26325 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Midcapnifty futures shed around 8.5% of open interest as long unwinding, Nifty futures added around 4.5% of open interest as short buildup. On the other hand, Banknifty and Finnifty futures remained almost unchanged on price front, while on open interest front, BankNifty futures added around 3.6% of open interest and Finnifty futures shed around 4.8% of open interest.

All F&O sectors, barring Technology and Telecom, settled on a negative note. Amongst them, Capital Goods , Chemical, Infra and Finance stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions along with some long unwinding among Auto, FMCG, New-Age and Power stocks.

On option front, call writing along with some put addition was seen at multiple OTM strikes and maximum positions are at 25500 PE followed by 25000 PE and 27000 CE followed by 26000 CE. Options data for current week expiry is still showing some negative sentiment with immediate support around 25850 spot levels and resistance around 26050-26100 spot levels.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 3207 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 2633 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 2592 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 4730 Cr.
