Asian stocks were poised to open lower, tracking technology-led losses on Wall Street. Precious metals were in focus after a slump in silver and gold from fresh all-time highs. Equity futures in Australia and Japan pointed to a weak start for their markets. That’s after the S&P 500 Index fell 0.3%, with shares of Tesla Inc., Nvidia Corp. and Meta Platforms among the Big Tech decliners. The Nasdaq 100 slid 0.5%.

Global Stock Market Today
- US equity markets settled on a flat to negative note.
- European equity markets ended on a flat note.
- Asian equity markets are trading mix.
- GIFT Nifty is down by 50 points, Nifty futures likely to open around 25920 levels.
Benchmark Nifty index ended lower at 25942 spot levels after a cut of another 100 points from its previous closing values.
Broader markets slightly underperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices were down 0.52% & 0.72% respectively.
Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in red. Amongst them, IT, Realty, Healthcare and Consumer Durables were at the bottom of the tally, down in range 0.62% to 0.91%. On the other hand, Media was at the top of the tally, gained around 1%.
Nifty index is continuing its sideways journey in 25700-26300 spot zone in absences of fresh triggers. An either side decisive break from this range will set the tone for next directional move in that direction. Hence, we suggest traders to focus on stocks specific trading approach.
Derivatives Overview & Outlook
Yesterday, Nifty and Midcapnifty futures added around 7% and 8% of open interest respectively as short buildup along with some long unwinding in Banknifty and Finnifty futures as both shed 4.3% and 4.7% of open interest respectively.
All F&O sectors, barring FMCG and Oil & Gas, settled on a negative note. Amongst them, Capital Goods , Metal and Realty stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions along with some long unwinding among Infrastructure and Technology stocks.
On option front, call writing along with some put unwinding was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum positions are at 25900 PE and 26100 CE followed by 26000 CE. Options data for current week expiry is still showing a sideways expiry with negative bias with immediate support around 25850 spot levels and resistance around 26020-26100 spot levels.
Institutional Trading Activity
Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 2760 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1708 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 504 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2644 Cr.
