South Korea’s opposition party filed a motion to impeach Acting President Han Duck-soo after he resisted pressure to appoint court judges who might increase the likelihood of removing President Yoon Suk Yeol from power.
The Democratic Party proposed the impeachment motion and presented it at a plenary session of the National Assembly, with plans to hold the vote as early as Friday.

  • NHPC revised the loss incurred at its Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim due to flash floods to Rs 1,075.97 crore. The company has informed the insurers of an initial assessment of material loss amounting to Rs 327.67 crore due to a landslide that occurred in Aug 2024.
  • Adani Enterprises acquired a 26% stake in Gidhmuri Paturia Collieries.
  • Lemon Tree hotels signed a licensed agreement for a 76-room hotel in Maharashtra.
  • NDTV approved increasing ownership in NDTV Media Ltd, NDTV Worldwide Ltd, NDTV Convergence Ltd, and NDTV Networks Ltd through the purchase of shares held by minority shareholders at fair market value.
  • Dixon Technologies’s arm Dixon Electro Manufacturing entered a memorandum of understanding with Cellecor Gadgets for the manufacturing of refrigerators and their related components for Cellecor.
  • Allcargo Logistics’s LCL volume increased by 1% year-on-year to 7,18,000 cubic meters but declined 4% month-on-month. FCL volume reached 54,000 TEUs in November 2024, reflecting a 9% year-on-year increase but a 6% month-on-month decline. Air cargo volume rose by 11% year-on-year and 13% month-on-month, reaching 2.8 million kilograms for the month of November.
  • Gensol Engineering secured an EPC contract worth Rs 897 crore from NTPC Renewable Energy for the development of 225 MW grid-connected solar PV projects at GSECL Solar Park in Gujarat.
  • Jubilant Foodworks has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Coca-Cola India Pvt to buy the portfolio of sparkling beverages and other products from the company’s authorised bottlers. Jubilant FoodWorks, which is a subsidiary of the Jubilant Bhartia Group, will also conduct “marketing activities for the said products” as per the pact.
  • Gujarat Fluorochemicals: The board approved the slump sale of a captive power plant to subsidiary IGREL Mahidad Ltd. for Rs 200 crore. GFL will purchase power up to 107 megawatts from IGREL Mahidad at the rate of Rs 4 per unit, with the transaction value based on the number of units generated and the commercial operation date. Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index once again settled on a flat note at 23750 levels after a lackluster trading session.

Broader markets performed in line with the benchmark as both Mid and Small cap indices settled on a flat note.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Auto and Healthcare index were at the top of the tally, gained close to 1% each. On the other hand, Media index was at the bottom of the tally, fell 1.46%.

Technically, Nifty index is trading in a thin range i.e. 23650-23870 levels for past couple of sessions. Going ahead, either side break from this range is essential for any directional move in that direction.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, no significant change was seen in all major index futures on the price front, whereas on open interest front, Banknifty futures added around 7.5% of open interest as short buildup along with some long unwinding in Nifty and Finnifty futures with decrease in open interest by 15.8% and 6% respectively.

Nifty futures rolled 78% of open interest into next contracts which was marginally lower than the previous month rollovers of 79%.

On options front, Nifty will start the first weekly contract of the January series with maximum positions at 25000 CE followed by 24000 CE and 23800 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 2377 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1796 Cr and bought stock futures worth Rs 3141 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 3336 Cr.
