Gold and silver jumped to all-time highs, with escalating geopolitical tensions and US dollar weakness helping to extend a historic rally for precious metals.   • Asian equity markets are trading with a positive bias in light trading on Friday, with Japanese and South Korean shares leading the advance while several regional markets remained closed for holidays.
  • Crude oil is on track for its strongest weekly gain in two months, driven by geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions. Traders are reacting to a partial U.S. blockade on Venezuelan crude exports and a recent U.S. military strike targeting a terrorist group in Nigeria.

 

Important news updates from the domestic front

  • Ola Electric received government approval for a Rs 367 crore incentive payout under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for automobiles and auto components. The claim pertains to sales value in fiscal 2025.
  • KNR Construction executed an agreement to sell a 100% stake in four SPVs to Indus Infra Trust for Rs 1,543 crore. The company will invest Rs 567 crore (equity and sub-debt) in the SPVs and receive Rs 1,543 crore in total consideration.
  • JSW Energy Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) rejected a petition filed by MSEDCL challenging certain invoices raised by JSW Energy.
  • Dilip Buildcon received completion certificate for a Rs 360 crore bridge construction project in Karnataka.
  • Adani Enterprises Navi Mumbai International Airport commenced commercial flight operations.
  • L&T Transportation & Infrastructure vertical secured an order worth Rs 1,000–2,500 crore from Mumbai Metro.
  • Swiggy and Eternal Gig and platform delivery workers called for an all-India strike on Dec. 25 and 31. Workers from Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon and Flipkart participated, according to unions. Quick-commerce deliveries were suspended in parts of Gurugram.
  • Lenskart to invest Rs 18.6 crore for a 29.2% stake in South Korea-based iiNeer Corp., which develops technology-enabled eye-testing and lens-cutting equipment.
  • Deepak Fertiliser wholly owned subsidiary to acquire a 100% stake in an explosives manufacturer. Further details will be disclosed upon transaction closure.
  • Lodha Developers (G Corp) Karnataka Real Estate Appellate Tribunal directed Karnataka RERA to seek further compliance from G Corp. The company plans to challenge the order in an appropriate forum.
  • IndusInd Bank received a letter from the Serious Fraud Investigation Office on December 23 seeking information related to an ongoing probe.
  • Hindustan Copper LIC sold a 2% stake in the company, reducing its shareholding to 4.1%.
  • LT Foods announced a new manufacturing unit in Raichur, Karnataka, focused on regional rice varieties.
  • Supreme Industries secured a repeat order worth Rs 54 crore from BPCL for composite LPG cylinders.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended on a slightly negative note at 26142 spot levels after a cut of 35 points from its previous closing values.

Performance on the broader front was mix. Small cap index outperformed the benchmark as it settled on a positive note. On the other hand, Mid cap index underperformed the benchmark, fell 0.6%.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended on a flat to negative note. Amongst them, IT, Pharma, Consumer Durables and PSU Bank index were down around 0.5% each.

Nifty index is hovering in a board congestion zone (26300-25700 spot zone). In day trade, 26060-25950 will act as an important support on the down side whereas as immediate resistance is placed around 26235 spot levels and bias is likely to be sideways.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Last Wednesday, all index futures moved southward on long unwinding as Nifty, Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures shed 1.5%, 4.6%, 5% and 5.7% of open interest respectively.

Majority of the sectoral indices ended on a negative note. Long unwinding was seen among Automobile, Capital Goods, Chemical, Infrastructure and Power stocks, whereas some long buildup was seen among Metal Stocks.

On the option front, both call and put writing was seen at multiple strikes. The Maximum open interest is at 26200 CE followed by 27000 CE. On the put side, the maximum positions are at 26000 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

On Wednesday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 1721 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 1032 Cr also bought stocks futures worth Rs 879 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2381 Cr.
