President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on automobile, semiconductor and pharmaceutical imports of around 25%, with an announcement coming as soon as April 2, 2025. New levies on automobiles would have sweeping effects on the industry. Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index settled on a flat note at 22945 levels after a lacklustre trading session.

Performance on the broader front was mix. Mid cap index traded in line with the benchmark, whereas Small cap index underperformed the benchmark as it fell over 1.5%.

Majority of sectoral indices ended in red. Amongst them, Nifty Consumer Durables was the worst hit, down 1.36% followed by Auto, FMCG, PSU Banks, Pharma and Media index that fell in range 0.5% to 1% each. On the flip side, IT and Oil & Gas index led the advances, gained 0.95% & 0.51% respectively.

Technically, Nifty index is holding well above the support zones of 22800-22750 spot levels. Going ahead, sustenance above 23000 spot levels might take it up to 23200-23250 spot levels in immediate near term. For any sustainable recovery it should close above 23250 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, long unwinding was seen in Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures with decrease in open interest by around 2% each, Banknifty futures added 1.4% of open interest as short buildup whereas no significant change was seen in Nifty futures on price front as well as on open interest front.

Majority of sectoral indices settled on a negative note. Amongst them, Banking, Capital Goods, Finance, FMCG and Infrastructure stocks witnessed addition of short positions along with some long unwinding in Chemical, Media and Pharma stocks.

On options front, call writing was seen at multiple strikes and maximum positions are at 23500 CE and 22000 PE followed by 22500 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 4786 Cr in the cash segment, sold stocks futures worth Rs 97 Cr also sold index futures worth Rs 303 Cr. DIIs were also net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 3072 Cr
