News highlights from across the globe

  • US stocks finished at all-time highs on Thursday as retail sales rebounded in June, easing concerns about a slowdown in consumer spending and underpinning a strong economy.
  • Majority of Asian markets are trading with a positive bias on Friday as a global equity rally gained fresh vigor on strong economic data that eased concerns about the US economy.
  • Europe will announce its Current Account and Construction Output data. India will release its bank load growth and foreign exchange reserve data.

  • Axis Bank Q1 FY26 Highlights (Standalone, YoY) NII up 1% to Rs 13,560 crore versus Rs 13,448 crore. Net Profit down 3.8% to Rs 5,806 crore versus Rs 6,035 crore. Provisions up 94% to Rs 3,948 crore versus Rs 2,039 crore. Net NPA at 0.45% versus 0.33% (QoQ). Gross NPA at 1.57% versus 1.28% (QoQ). Fresh slippages at Rs 8,200 crore versus Rs 4805 crore.
  • Wipro Q1 FY26Highlights (Consolidated, QoQ) revenue down 1.65% to Rs 22,134 crore versus Rs 22,504.2 crore. EBIT decreased 9.09% to Rs 3,548 crore versus Rs 3,902 crore. EBIT margin contracted 132 basis points to 16.02% versus 17.3%. Net profit fell 7.02% to Rs 3,336 crore versus Rs 3,588 crore.
  • Indian Hotels Co Q1 FY26 Highlights (Consolidated, YoY) revenue 31.7% up at Rs 2,041.08 crore versus Rs 1,550.23 crore. Ebitda up 28% to Rs 576.03 crore versus Rs 449.60 crore. Ebitda margin at 28.2% versus 29%. Net profit up 19% to Rs 296.37 crore versus Rs 248.39 crore.
  • Ambuja Cements received no objection letter from NSE for the scheme of arrangement with Sanghi Industries.
  • Bharat Forge’s arm Kalyani strategic systems incorporated joint venture aegis advanced systems SL in Spain.
  • Delhivery received approval from Competition Commission of India for acquisition of Ecom Express.
  • HAL received the first set of wing assemblies for LCA Mk1A from L&T.
  • Lupin received good manufacturing practice certification from Therapeutic Goods Administration Australia for Dabhasa API Facility.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra’s arm, Mahindra Logistics, received approval for a rights issue of shares valued at RS 749 crore, with an issue price set at Rs 277 per share.
  • South Indian Bank approved raising Rs 1,000 crore via bonds.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended slightly lower at 25111 spot levels falling 100 points from its previous closing values after a lackluster trading session.

Broader markets fell in line with the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices also settled on a slightly negative note.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Nifty IT was the worst performer, down 1.39% followed by Bank index that was down by 0.59%. On the other hand, Realty index was the top gainer, rose 1.24% followed by Metal and Consumer Durables index that rose 0.67% & 0.5% respectively.

Nifty index is heading towards the support zone of lower band of upward sloping channel pattern i.e. 25000-24850 spot zone. On short term charts, it is moving in a thin range of just 250 points during the entire week with immediate resistances at 25250 spot levels and supports are at 25000 spot levels. Going ahead, an either side break from 25000-25250 spot levels will provide a short term opportunity in that direction.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Nifty, Banknifty and Midcpnifty futures added around 1.5% of open interest each as short buildup whereas some long unwinding was seen in Finnifty futures to the tune of 1.5%.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Amongst them, Banking, Capital Goods and Technology stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions, whereas some short covering was seen in Chemical, Oil & Gas and Pharma stocks.

On options front, call writing along with some put addition was seen at multiple strikes. Nifty will start the new weekly contract with maximum positions at 25000 PE and 26000 CE closely followed by 25200 CE. Options data still showing negative sentiments.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 3694 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 1989 Cr also sold stocks futures worth Rs 1488 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 2821 Cr.
