Global Stock Market Today
- US equity markets settled on a flat to negative note.
- European equity markets, barring CAC, ended on a positive note.
- Asian equity markets are trading with a negative bias.
- GIFT Nifty is little changed, Nifty futures likely to open around 25430 levels.
Tracking negative global cues, benchmark Nifty index opened with a gap on the lower side and kept the bearish momentum rolling till the end to settle at 25471.10 spot levels after a cut of over 300 points from its previous closing values.
Selling pressure was seen across the board as Mid and Small cap indices too settled lower over 1.5% each.
Performance was no different on the sectoral front. Amongst them, Nifty Metal index was leading the decline, tumble over 3% while the majority were down over 1.5% each.
Nifty index is gradually heading towards its lower targets of 25400-25200 spot zone. Going ahead, we continue to maintain our sell on rise trading approach by the time Nifty is trading below 25950 spot levels on closing basis.
Derivatives Overview & Outlook
Last Friday, Short buildup was seen in Nifty and Finnifty futures with an increase in open interest by 6.8% and 3.5% respectively along with some long unwinding in Banknifty futures that shed aroud 11% of open interest. On the other hand, no significant changes was observed in Midcapnifty futures on open interest front.
All F&O sectors settled lower. Amongst them, Newage, Realty and Technology stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions whereas some long unwinding was seen among Chemical stocks.
On options front, further call writing along with some put addition was seen at multiple OTM strike. Maximum positions are at 26000 CE followed by 26500 CE and 25000 PE followed by 25500 PE. The quantum of call positions is significantly higher than the quantum of put positions that is a negative sign.
Institutional Trading Activity
Last week, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 639 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 511 Cr and sold stocks futures worth Rs 5986 Cr. DIIs were too net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 6884 Cr during this week.
