Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended on a flat note at 26027 spot levels after a cut of 20 points from its previous closing values.

Performance on the broader front was mix. Mid cap index ended on a flat to negative note, on the other hand, small cap index ended slightly higher.

Performance on the sectoral front was no different. Amongst them, Nifty Media was the top gainer, rose 1.79% followed by FMCG and Consumer Durables that rose just over 0.5% each. On the flip side, Auto and Fin Services Ex-Banks were down 0.91% & 0.52% respectively.

Nifty index is trading around its price and trendline resistances of 26060 spot levels. Going ahead, cross and sustenance above the said levels might take it up to 26200 spot levels in immediate near term. Higher probability of a sideways move in 26060-25850 spot levels by the time Nifty is trading below 26060 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Finnifty futures added 2.2% of open interest as short buildup along with some long unwinding in Nifty futures that shed around 2% of open interest, while no meaningful activity was seen among Banknifty and Midcapnifty futures on open interest front.

Majority of the sectoral indices settled on a positive note. Amongst them, Chemical and Realty stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions whereas some short buildup was seen among Finance and Telecom stocks.

On the option front, put writing along with some call addition was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 26200 CE closely followed by 26100 CE and 25900 PE followed by 26000 PE. Options data showing a sideways expiry with a positive bias.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 1468 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 475 Cr and sold stocks futures worth Rs 2297 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 1792 Cr
