Volatility during the second half of the week will be on the higher side as major central banks including US Fed, Bank of Japan and Bank of England will be announcing their monetary policy during the said period.

Global Stock Market Today

  • US equity markets, barring NASDAQ, settled on a higher note.
  • European equity markets ended on a flat note.
  • Majority of Asian equity markets are trading in green.
  • GIFT Nifty is little changed, Nifty futures likely to open around 25170 levels.

 

News highlights from across the globe

  • Majority of Asian equity markets are trading in green on Monday, with the benchmark in South Korea up while Australia and Hong Kong dipped. Japan is closed for a holiday. MSCI’s Asia equity index also traded near a record high.
  • Oil prices remained under $67 per barrel as traders weighed Western moves to crack down on Russian supplies against forecasts for a surplus later in the year.

  • Vedanta’s arm Talwandi Sabo Power has signed a settlement agreement with SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation to resolve all long-standing disputes related to the EPC contracts for its 3×660 MW Thermal Power Project.
  • Engineers India gets Rs 618 crore order from an Africa-based fertilizer company to provide project management consultancy services.
  • Waaree Energies’s arm incorporates three wholly-owned subsidiaries.
  • ICICI Bank gets RBI nod to buy an additional 2% stake in ICICI Prudential AMC.
  • JK Cement updates that NCLT sanctions a scheme of amalgamation of arm Toshali Cements with company.
  • Apollo Hospitals to acquire 30.58% IFC’s stake in arm Apollo Health for Rs 1,254 crore. The company will also set up an oncology facility in Gurugram for Rs 573 crore.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended higher at 25114 spot levels after adding 108 points to its previous closing values amid rate cut hopes by US Fed in its coming policy meet scheduled on Sep 17, 2025.

Broader markets traded in line with the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices gained 0.32% & 0.64% respectively.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in green. Amongst them, Metal and Fin Services index were the top performers, gained 0.93% & 0.82% respectively. On the flip side, FMCG index was the worst performer, down 0.71%.

Technically, Nifty index witnessed a bullish trendline breakout on daily charts above 25100 spot levels; although, lack of post-breakout momentum suggests adopting a cautious stance going ahead. Going forward, it is likely to move north in a gradual manner till it is trading above 24850 spot levels on closing basis and expected to test 25350 spot levels in near term.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Last Friday, all index futures moved higher on short covering as Nifty, Banknifty and Finnifty futures shed around 2.5%, 4.5% and 8.5% of open interest respectively while no significant changes was seen in Midcapnifty futures on open interest front.

On option front, put writing along with some call unwinding was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum positions are at 25000 PE and maximum call positions are at 25500 CE followed by 26000 CE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Last Friday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 129 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 1977 Cr also bought stocks futures worth Rs 1059 Cr. DIIs were net buyers  in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 1556 Cr.
