All eyes today are on Bihar, which will decide whether Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar – the state’s longest-serving chief minister – will secure a record fifth consecutive term or a change in government will be witnessed. Domestic market will be volatile as counting progresses.

  • Asian stocks fell at the open Friday after uncertainty over Federal Reserve interest-rate cuts.
  • Gold opened steady after its first decline in five days. Bullion was trading around $4,175 an ounce, having ended 0.6% lower in the previous session.

  • VOLTAS (Cons, YoY) – Revenue down 10.4% at Rs 2,347 crore vs Rs 2,619 crore. Ebitda down 56.6% at Rs 70.3 crore vs Rs 162 crore. Margin at 3% vs 6.2%. Net Profit down 74.4% at Rs 34.3 crore vs Rs 134 crore.
  • TATA MOTORS CV (Cons, YoY) – Revenue up 6% at Rs 18,585 crore vs Rs 17,535 crore. Ebitda down 98.7% at Rs 22 crore vs Rs 1,719 crore. Margin at 0.1% vs 9.8%. Net Loss at Rs 867 crore vs Profit of Rs 498 crore. Provision of Rs 2,355 crore for impairment in subsidiaries. Fair value loss on certain unquoted investments reduced NAV of TMF Holdings Ltd.
  • LG ELECTRONICS (YoY) – Revenue up 1% at Rs 6,174 crore vs Rs 6,114 crore Ebitda down 27.7% at Rs 547 crore vs Rs 757 crore Margin at 8.9% vs 12.4% Net Profit down 27.3% at Rs 389 crore vs Rs 536 crore.
  • HERO MOTO (YoY) – Revenue up 15.9% at Rs 12,126 crore vs Rs 10,463 crore Ebitda up 20.3% at Rs 1,823 crore vs Rs 1,516 crore Margin at 15% vs 14.5% Net Profit up 15.7% at Rs 1,393 crore vs Rs 1,204 crore.
  • Muthoot Finance has approved an additional investment of Rs 500 crore in its arm, Muthoot Money, and has also approved incremental fundraising of up to Rs 35,000 crore through NCDs.
  • NBCC has received an order worth Rs 340 crore for the construction of the Central University of Kashmir.
  • Alkem Laboratories plans to invest Rs 200 crore in its Zambia-based arm, Akums Healthcare.
  • Zydus Life has received final approval from the USFDA for Diroximel Fumarate delayed-release capsules, which are used to treat multiple sclerosis.
  • Bharat Dynamics has received an order worth Rs 2,096 crore from the Defence Ministry to supply anti-tank missiles.
  • Apollo Tyres has approved raising funds of up to Rs 1,000 crore through NCDs.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended on a flat note at 25879 spot levels after adding just 3 points to its previous closing values.

Broader markets marginally underperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices were down 0.35% each.

Performance on the sectoral front was muted and mix. Amongst them, PSU Bank, Media and FMCG index were down around 0.5% each. On the other hand, Metal, Pharma and Realty index settled higher after adding 0.4% each.

Nifty index is likely to trade volatile in day trade on Bihar Assembly election vote counting. On levels front, immediate resistances are placed around 26025-26100 spot levels and supports are around 25780-25720 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, all major index futures remained almost unchanged on price front. Finnifty and Banknifty futures open interest shed by 3% & 7% respectively ahead of Bihar election outcome, on the other hand, Midcapnifty futures which added around 1% of open interest as short buildup.

Majority of sectoral indices settled on a negative note. Amongst them, Chemical , Infrastructure and Textile stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions along with some long unwinding in Banking, Oil & Gas and Technology stocks.

On option front, call writing along with put unwinding was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 27000 CE followed by 26000 CE and 25000 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 384 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 454 Cr also bought stocks futures worth Rs 924 Cr. DIIs were net buyers  in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 3092 Cr.
