US CPI picks up to 2.6% from 2.4% on year-on-year basis – Daily Market Update 14 Nov 2024

The all items index rose 2.6 percent for the 12 months ending October, after rising 2.4 percent over the 12 months ending September. The all items less food and energy index rose 3.3 percent over the last 12 months.

  • Asian markets are trading mix on Thursday after US CPI data for October came in line with expectation.

  • Eicher Motors Q2 FY25 (Consolidated, YoY) Revenue up 3.6% at Rs 4,263 crore versus Rs 4,115 crore. Ebitda at Rs 1,088 crore versus Rs 1,088 crore. Ebitda margins down 90 bps at 25.5% versus 26.4%. Net profit up 8.3% at Rs 1,100 crore versus Rs 1,016 crore.
  • Godrej Industries Q2 FY25 (Consolidated, YoY) Revenue up 22% at Rs 4,805 crore versus Rs 3,938 crore. Ebitda at Rs 575 crore versus Rs 266 crore. Ebitda margin at 12% versus 6.7%. Net profit at Rs 489 crore versus Rs 165 crore.
  • Deepak Nitrite Q2 FY25 (Consolidated, YoY) Revenue up 14.3% at Rs 2,032 crore versus Rs 1,778 crore. Ebitda down 1.6% at Rs 298 crore versus Rs 302 crore. Ebitda margin at 14.6% versus 17%. Net profit down 5.3% at Rs 194 crore versus Rs 205 crore.
  • Wipro and Sahara International Petrochemical completed the implementation of SAP S/4HANA.
  • Tata Communications will sell unit Tata Communications Payment Solutions to Australian digital payments and financial services provider Findi for over Rs 400 crore.
  • Tata Power’s arm commissioned 126 MW floating solar projects in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Deepak Nitrit’s arm Deepak Chem Tech has signed an agreement with affiliates of Trinseo PLC to manufacture polycarbonate resins with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.
  • Varun Beverages: PepsiCo’s bottling franchise partner has set the floor price for its Rs 7,500-crore qualified institutional placement at Rs 594.56 per share. The floor price is at a premium of 4.66% to Wednesday’s closing price of Rs 568.10 per share on NSE.

 

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended sharply lower at 23559 levels after a cut of 324 points from its previous closing values.

Broader markets underperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap index fell 2.44% & 2.96% respectively.

Performance on the sectoral front was no different as all sectoral indices tracked at NSE ended in red. Amongst them, Realty index was the worst performer, fell over 3% followed by Auto, Banking, Media and Metal that fell over 2% each.

Technically, Nifty index has reached around its 200 EMA on daily charts; hence, possibility of some relief rally can not be ruled out at this juncture. On levels front, 23450-23500 will act as immediate support on the down side and 23800-23850 zone will act as immediate resistance zone on the higher side.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, short buildup was seen among all major indices as Nifty, Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures as they added 3.7%, 2.4%, 1% & 1% of open interest respectively .

All of the sectoral indices settled lower. Amongst them, Chemical, Capital Goods and Media stocks witnessed maximum additions of short positions, whereas some long unwinding was seen among Oil & Gas and Realty stocks.

On option front, aggressive call writing was seen at multiple strikes and maximum positions are at 24000 CE and 23000 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 2503 Cr in the cash segment, bought stocks futures worth Rs 2455 and sold index future worth Rs 1886 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 6145 Cr.
