India’s retail inflation eases to 1.55% in July, lowest in Eight years – Daily Market Update 13th Aug 2025

The consumer price index-based inflation cooled down to 1.55% in July, from 2.1% in June, according to data from the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on Tuesday. The consumer food price index deflated by 1.76% compared to -1.06% in the same period. Vegetables deflated at 20.7% in July compared to -19% in June.

  • Jindal Steel Q1 Highlights (Consolidated, QoQ) – Revenue down 6.8% to Rs 12,294.00 crore versus Rs 13,183.00 crore. Net Profit at Rs 1,494.00 crore versus a loss of Rs 339.00 crore.
  • Apollo Hospitals Q1 Highlights (Consolidated, YoY) – Revenue up 14.9% to Rs 5,842.00 crore versus Rs 5,086.00 crore. Net Profit up 41.8% to Rs 433.00 crore versus Rs 305.00 crore.
  • BEML has received an order worth Rs 1,888 crore from the Integral Coach Factory for the manufacture and supply of fully functional LHB coaches.
  • ONGC have signed a Joint Operating Agreement with Oil India for three blocks that were awarded in the Open Acreage Licensing Policy Round IX.
  • RVNL: There has been a change in shareholding pattern In a joint venture of the company, Metrowagonmash has revised its stake from 70% to 35%, Locomotive Electronic System has increased its stake from 5% to 40%, and RVNL’s stake remains unchanged at 25%.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended lower at 24487 spot levels after a cut of 98 points from its previous closing values.

Performance on the broader front was mix as Mid cap and Small cap index ended on a flat to negative note.

Performance on the sectoral front was no different. Amongst them, Banking, Finance and Realty index were the worst performers, down 0.5% to 1%. On the flip side, Auto, Media, Pharma and Health Care index were the top contributors, rose around 0.5% each.

Going ahead, we continue to uphold our short term negative view with sell on rise trading approach on Nifty index till it is trading below 24800 spot levels on closing basis.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures added 3.4%, 1.7% and 1.7% of open interest respectively as short buildup whereas no meaningful activiy was seen in Nifty futures on open interest front.

Majority of F&O sectors settled on a negative note. Amongst them, Capital Goods, Finance and Infrastructure stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions whereas some long buildup was seen among Pharma and Technology stocks.

On options front, call writing along with some put unwinding was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum positions are at 25000 CE followed by 24700 CE and 24000 PE followed by 24400 PE. Quantum of call positions is significantly higher than the quantum of put positions that show negative sentiments.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 3399 Cr in the cash segment, bought stocks futures worth Rs 452 Cr and sold index futures worth Rs 1025 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 3508 Cr.
