Leading IT services player Infosys Ltd on Thursday announced a buyback of Rs 18,000 crore through a tender route, its biggest ever since listing. The Bengaluru-based IT major will buyback about 10 crore shares, representing 2.41% of equity at Rs 1,800 apiece, which will be 19% premium over the current market price.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index ended on a flat to positive note at 25005 spot levels after adding 32 points to its previous closing values in an otherwise lackluster trading session.

Broader markets performed in line with the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices too settled on a flat note.

Performance on the sectoral front was no different. Oil & Gas along with Media and PSU Bank index posted some meaning gains, rose in range 0.7% to 1.10%. On the flip side, IT index was down 0.5%.

Technically, Nifty index is hovering around the trendline resistance of 25100 spot levels. A decisive close above 25100 spot levels will open the doors for next short term directional up move up to 24350-24500 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Nifty, Banknifty and Finnifty futures rose on short covering as open interest decreased by 1%, 4% and 5.5% respectively whereas no meaningful activity was seen in Midcapnifty futures on price as well as on open interest front.

On option front, put writing along with some call writing was seen at higher strikes. Maximum positions are at 25000 PE and maximum call positions are at 26000 CE followed by 25500 & 25000 CE. Options data is indicating slightly positive sentiments.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 2796 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 635 Cr and sold stocks futures worth Rs 2774 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 4263 Cr.
