Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index started the week on a steller note, settled at 24585 spot levels after adding over 222 points to its previous closing values.

Performance on the broader front was mix. Mid cap index traded in line with the benchmark, rose 0.85%, whereas Small cap index underperformed as it settled in a slightly positive note after adding just 0.36%.

All sectoral indices, barring Consumer Durables, ended on a positive note. Amongst them, PSU Bank and Realty index were at the top of the tally, rose 2.22% & 1.86% respectively followed by Auto & Healthcare index that gained over 1% each.

Nifty index took a pause from its ongoing short term down move as anticipated in our previous post dated Aug 11, 2025. Going ahead, we reiterate our short term negative view on Nifty index till it is holding below 24800 spot levels on closing basis.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Midcapnifty futures added 4.7% of open interest as long buildup along with some short covering in Nifty and Banknifty futures that shed around 1.5% and 3.5% of open interest respectively. On the hand, no significant changes was seen in Finnifty futures on open interest front.

All F&O sectors, barring Capital Goods, settled on a positive note. Amongst them, Chemical, FMCG and Power stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions along with some short covering in Oil & Gas stocks.

On options front, put writing along with call unwinding was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum positions are at 23500 PE followed by 24400 PE and 25000 CE followed by 25500 CE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 1203 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 550 Cr also bought stocks futures worth Rs 2409 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 5972 Cr.
