Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that India is in “active dialogue” with the United States for a free trade agreement.
Goyal said that apart from the US, trade negotiations are going on with the European Union as well in the national capital. Besides, India is also in talks with New Zealand for a trade agreement, he added.

  • Torrent Pharmaceuticals has signed an agreement to subscribe to a 26% equity stake in Torrent Urja 27. This investment is for setting up a captive hybrid solar and wind power project in Gujarat.
  • Bank of Baroda has revised marginal cost of funds based lending rate cuts overnight by 10 basis points, to 7.85%, effective Sept. 12.
  • Muthoot Finance has infused additional equity into its subsidiary, Muthoot Homefin by subscribing to and being allotted 2.6 crore equity shares.
  • Astral has approved the acquisition of the remaining 20% equity shares of its subsidiary, Astral Coatings, for Rs 75 crore.
  • Rail Vikas Nigam has secured a Rs 169.48 crore domestic order from West Central Railway for the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 220/132kV/2X’25 kV Scott connected Traction Sub.
  • Eicher Motors’ arm VE Commercial has announced that it will pass on the full benefit of the recent GST reduction to its customers. The GST on Company’s diesel, CNG, and LNG trucks and buses has been reduced from 28% to 18%.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Tracking positive cues from the global peers, benchmark Nifty index opened with a gap on the higher side, and traded sideways throughout the session to settle at 24973 spot levels after adding 100 odd points to its previous closing values.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices gained 0.93% & 0.73% respectively from its previous closing values.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in green. Amongst them, IT and PSU bank index were at the top of the tally, gained 2.63% & 2.09% respectively. On the flip side, Auto index dragged the markets lower, down 1.28%.

Despite a strong open, Nifty index formed a red Doji candlestick on daily charts showing indecisiveness among traders. Going ahead, we continue to uphold our sideways view on Nifty index till it is trading in 24450-25100 range. An either side decisive break from this range hold the key for next short term directional move.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, long buildup was seen in Nifty futures with an increase in open interest by 1.77% along with short covering among Banknifty, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures that shed 3.81%, 1.25% and 0.89% of open interest respectively.

On option front, call addition along with put writing was seen at multiple strikes. Maximum positions are at 24000 PE followed by 25000 PE and maximum call positions are at 25000 CE followed by 26000 CE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 33 Cr in the cash segment, bought index futures worth Rs 698 Cr also bought stocks futures worth Rs 254 Cr. DIIs were also net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 4963 Cr.
