Gautam Adani won dismissal of US securities fraud charges, ending a blockbuster case that threatened the expansion of the Indian billionaire’s giant conglomerate. US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn, New York, on Monday dismissed conspiracy, securities and wire fraud charges against Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani. The case was brought in an indictment in the waning days of President Joe Biden’s administration in late 2024.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

ifty index once again traded in a thin range of around 100 points in 24511-24620 spot levels and settled on a flat note at 24584 spot levels.

The performance on the broader front was mix as Mid cap index gained 0.62%, whereas Small cap index settled on a flat to negative note.

The performance on the sectoral front was largely mix and muted. Among them, Nifty PSU Bank index fell 1.67%, on the other hand, Realty index gained 1.35%.

Technically, Nifty index is hovering in a thin range (24400-24730 spot levels) and we continue to maintain our sideways view on the index as long as it continue to hover in this zone. A break on either sider of this range will start the next short term directional move in that direction. Cross and sustenance above 24730 spot could lead it up to 23850 and higher levels in immediate near term; conversely, a fall below 24400 spot could drag it back to 24130-24050 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Finnifty and Midcapnifty futures rose on short covering as open interest shed by 1.9% and 1% respectively, Nifty added 1% of open interest without significant change in price. On the other hand, Banknifty futures remain unchanged on open interest front.

On the sectoral front, Automobile, Pharma and Telecom stocks witnessed maximum addition of short positions whereas some long buildup were seen among Capital Goods, Chemicals and Technology stocks along with some short covering among Cement, New_Age and Oil & Gas stocks.

On options front, call addition along with some put writing was seen at multiple OTM strikes. Maximum positions are at 24600 CE followed by 25000 CE and 24500 PE closely followed by 24600 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 1975 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 354 Cr and also sold stocks futures worth Rs 597 Cr. DIIs were net sellers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 1290 Cr.
