  • US equity markets are bracing for a third consecutive Fed rate cut on Wednesday, with focus on the central bank’s dot plot, updated economic projections, and remarks from Chair Jerome Powell.
  • Asian stocks are trading mix on Wednesday after a muted Wall Street session, as investors awaited signals on the Federal Reserve’s policy stance ahead of its final interest-rate decision of the year.
  • Oil prices held near their biggest two-day drop in a month, pressured by concerns over global oversupply. Brent crude hovered around $62 a barrel after losing 3% over the past two sessions.

  • NTPC Green’s arm declares commercial operations of 6.6 MW out of the 100 MW hybrid project in Bhuj, Gujarat; total installed capacity of NTPC Green Energy Group rises to 7,645.675 MW.
  • Grasim Industries approved proposal for infusion of funds in its arm Aditya Birla Renewables via preferential issue of up to Rs 500 crore and Global Infrastructure Partners (part of BlackRock) to invest up to Rs 3,000 crore in Aditya Birla Renewables (subsidiary of Grasim)
  • AU Small Finance Bank received approval from Finance Ministry to increase FDI limit to 74% from 49%.
  • InterGlobe Aviation announced operations have normalised; operating over 1,800 flights today connecting all 138 stations, and will operate over 1,900 flights Wednesday. The government ordered a 10% curtailment of flights.

Nifty Overview & Outlook

Benchmark Nifty index fell for the second consecutive trading session, ended lower at 25839 spot levels, down 121 points from its previous closing values.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmark as Mid and Small cap indices gained 0.32% & 1.14% respectively.

Majority of sectoral indices, tracked at NSE, ended in red. Amongst them, IT index was the worst performer, down over 1% followed by Auto and Pharma index that fell over half a percent. On the other hand, Consumer Durables and PSU Bank index were the top gainers, rose over 1% followed by Realty index that gained around 1%.

Nifty index witnessed a price breakdown from Head & Shoulder formation on hourly chart indicating short term weakness in prices with supports around 25600-25500 spot levels. On the flip side, sustenance above 26025 spot levels will start a short term congestion phase in 26200-25700 spot zone. key support levels to watch for intraday are 25700 spot levels and resistances are placed in range 25950-26025 spot levels.

 

Derivatives Overview & Outlook

Yesterday, Nifty and Finnifty futures further added 3.6% and 2.7% of open interest respectively as short buildup. On the other hand, no meaningful activities were seen in Banknifty and Midcapnifty futures on open interest as well as on price front.

Performance on the sectoral front was mix. Amongst them, Telecom and Textile stocks witnessed maximum addition of long positions along with some short covering among New age stocks. On the other hand, Auto and Cement stocks witnessed addition of some short positions.

On the option front, Nifty will start the new weekly contracts of the December series with a maximum position at 27000 CE followed by 26000 CE and 25000 PE followed by 25500 PE.

 

Institutional Trading Activity

Yesterday, FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 3760 Cr in the cash segment, sold index futures worth Rs 759 Cr and bought stocks futures worth Rs 1364 Cr. DIIs were net buyers in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 6225 Cr.
