- Overall gold (Apr) can move in range of 80600-81500 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 91000 -93000.
- The U.S. central bank held interest rates steady on Wednesday and its Chair Jerome Powell said the Fed would wait for signs of further progress on inflation, or of labor market weakness before it would cut interest rates further.
- The Fed’s rate decision on Wednesday was widely anticipated, following its rate cuts in 2024, which reduced the benchmark rate by a full percentage point.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 823-830. The Shanghai Futures Exchange is closed for the Lunar New Year holiday.
- Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 248-256.while lead may also move in range of 176-182. London aluminum edged higher on Thursday after the European Union proposed banning imports of the metal from Russia in a fresh package of sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.
- The EU ban would include aluminium alloys and have a one-year phase-in period, the proposal said, with “necessary” imports of 275,000 metric tons exempt for this period.
- Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would impose tariffs on aluminium, copper and steel. Echoing this stance, the White House said on Tuesday that Trump still plans to issue tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Saturday while weighing fresh tariffs on China.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 6200-6400. Oil prices were little changed in early trading on Thursday, as markets watched for tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump on Mexico and Canada, the two largest suppliers of crude oil to United States.
- U.S. President Donald Trump still plans to make good on his promise to issue tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Saturday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Tuesday.
- Investors also looked ahead to a ministerial meeting by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, together called OPEC+, scheduled for Feb. 3. The OPEC+ group of leading oil producers is set to discuss Trump’s efforts to raise U.S. oil production and take a joint stance on the matter, Kazakhstan said on Wednesday.
- Natural gas may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 265-285.
