BULLIONS

  • Bullions counter may open on green as gold prices drifted higher on Thursday as so-called currency debasement fears lingered, while attention shifted ‌to highly anticipated remarks from U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh this week. Gold prices rose more than 5% last week after the U.S. Treasury’s move to expand purchases of older long-dated bonds. This announcement prompted dollar-debasement fears.
  • Gold (Oct) can move in range of 162400-163800 while silver (Dec) can move in range of 246000-252000.
  • Fed Chair Warsh’s remarks at the annual Jackson Hole symposium in Wyoming are expected to be closely watched for further direction. Markets are assigning ‌a 36.5% probability to a September U.S. rate hike and a 72.7% chance by December, according to the CME Fed Watch Tool.

BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on firm path as it can move in range of 1385-1410. The International Copper Study Group reported a 60,000-tonne refined copper deficit in June, compared with a 15,000-tonne surplus in May, as global output reached 2.37 million tonnes against consumption of 2.43 million tonnes.
  • Inventories in LME-approved warehouses have halved since May to less than 210,000 tons as traders shifted copper to the United States ahead of possible tariffs on refined-metal imports.
  • Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 342-348. The aluminium market is betting that increased exports from China and Indonesia can offset the loss of production in the Gulf region due to the Iran war.

ENERGY

  • Crude oil may trade on weaker path as it can move in range of 7700-7900. Oil prices fell on Thursday, extending a streak of losses, on expectations that talks between Iran and Qatar might open the Strait of Hormuz and reduce supply disruptions from the war in the Middle East.
  • Iran and Oman are working on finalizing details of an agreement to control the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian source said on Wednesday, after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the two countries had agreed how to share the waterway that connects major Gulf oil producers to markets and its revenues.
  • The strait carried oil and natural gas shipments equal to about one-fifth of global consumption of the fuels before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran started on February 28. Since Iran worked to shut the waterway in response, oil flows have dropped to about one-quarter of their pre-war level, according to ship-tracking data.
  • Natural gas may trade with mixed path as it can move in range of 274-285.
