BULLIONS

  • Bullions counter may trade on positive path as gold prices edged higher and were on track for a fourth straight weekly gain on Friday, as uncertainty about U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade plans took wind out of the dollar’s sail, boosting demand for the safe-haven asset.
  • Overall gold (Feb) can move in range of 79600-80200 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 91000 -92500.
  • The dollar was lower on Thursday in a choppy session, after comments from Trump called for an immediate drop in interest rates while providing no clarity on tariffs, while investors awaited a round of policy announcements from global central banks.
  • Gold’s appeal as an inflation hedge may be diminished if Trump’s policies, which are seen as inflationary, lead the Fed to maintain interest rates higher for longer.
  • Uncertainty about Trump’s trade plans prevailed as he said tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, China and the European Union could be announced on Feb. 1.

BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 832-840. Most base metals traded in narrow ranges on Friday as investors looked for clarity on U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff and policy plans.
  • Alcoa will likely send its Australian aluminium output to the U.S. if Washington imposes tariff on Canadian imports, the aluminium producer’s CEO William Oplinger said on Thursday.
  • Aluminum prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 252-256.while lead may also move in range of 175-179.
  • The dollar index steadied at 108.12, below the 26-month high of 110.17 touched last week. A stronger dollar makes greenback-priced commodities more expensive for holders of other currencies.

ENERGY

  • Crude oil may trade on lower path as it can move in range of 6400-6520. Oil markets sank on Friday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump pressured OPEC and its de facto leader Saudi Arabia to lower prices in a broad push to drive up crude production.
  • Trump, during his speech on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said he would demand the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries bring down the cost of crude barrels.
  • The EIA report, issued a day late because of a U.S. holiday on Monday, said crude stockpiles fell by 1 million barrels to 411.7 million barrels in the week to Jan. 17, marking a ninth consecutive weekly decline.
  • Natural gas may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 330-350.
