BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may open on strong path as gold rose to a more than three-week high on Monday, as the dollar fell after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a vast swathe of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Friday and as U.S.-Iran tensions simmered. Gold (Apr) can move in range of 158000-162000 while silver (Mar) can move in range of 260000-280000.
- The dollar fell as traders took the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down most of Trump’s tariffs as supportive for global growth, though confusion and risk of conflict in the Middle East kept moves relatively small.
- The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a large swath of Trump’s tariffs has weakened his ability to threaten and impose tariffs at a moment’s notice, but it won’t end gnawing uncertainty for trade partners or companies.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper (Feb) prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 1150-1210. Macro uncertainty in the United States is an additional source of pressure. The Supreme Court decision against President Trump’s tariff agenda establishes policy uncertainty and makes it difficult for companies to plan long term investments.
- Aluminum (Feb) prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 304-312.while Zinc (Feb) may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 322-332.
- Despite an unchanged outlook of soaring copper demand in the long term due to electrification and surging power consumption, near-term prospects in the copper market appear more fragile than the gold rally.
ENERGY
- Crude oil (Mar) may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 5850-6100. Oil prices hit six-month highs as escalating U.S.-Iran tensions raise fears of potential supply disruptions involving Iran’s 3 million barrels per day of output.
- Iran’s Foreign Minister signaled there was progress being made, saying the negotiating teams had agreed on “guiding principles.” However, there were still sticking points, and while these were not detailed by anyone in an official capacity, the U.S. president apparently lost patience and issued a grave warning to Iran: make a deal or “Otherwise bad things happen.”
- Efforts to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine ended inconclusively, prolonging uncertainty around Russian oil output. Russia, a key member of the OPEC+ alliance, has already seen signs of slowing production due to reduced drilling activity.
- Natural gas (Mar) may witness short covering at lower levels as it can move in range of 275-290.
