Report Overview

BULLIONS

  • Bullions counter may trade on weaker path on profit booking after U.S. President Donald Trump dropped tariff threats and ruled out seizing Greenland from an ally by force. Overall Gold (Feb) can move in range of 150000-154500 while silver (Mar) can move in range of 315000-325000.
  • Trump said after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that Western Arctic allies could forge a new deal over Greenland that would satisfy his desire for a missile defence system and access to critical minerals.
  • Benchmark 10-year Treasury yields were down one basis point in Tokyo trade to 4.24%, after falling four bps in New York. Japanese government bonds started the day steady after a wild week where election spending promises triggered an historic rout in long-dated paper.

BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper (Jan) prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 1270-1310. The premium of the cash LME copper contract over the three-month forward spiked to more than $100 a ton on Tuesday, indicating strong demand for near-term metal, but the spread flipped into a $23.50 a ton discount on Wednesday.
  • China exported 96,000 tons of refined copper in December, down around one-third from November’s bumper shipments but still more than five times higher than a year earlier.
  • Aluminum (Jan) prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 312-320.while Zinc (Jan) may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 308-314.

ENERGY

  • Crude oil (Feb) may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 5500-5640. Oil prices edged up on Thursday after the U.S. president stepped back from threats to impose tariffs in his effort to seize Greenland, reducing the risk of a U.S.–Europe trade war and supporting the global economy and oil demand.
  • Crude stocks rose by 3.04 million barrels in the week ended on January 16, according to the API, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity. U.S. crude and gasoline stocks rose while distillate inventories fell last week, market sources said on Wednesday, citing figures from the American Petroleum Institute.
  • Natural gas (Jan) may jump further higher as it can move in range of 460-500. Prices are suppored by winter gas demand as chillier outlook boosts heating needs, strains storage, and push utilities and traders to shell out more for immediate supply. It often hits U.S. gas producer stocks too, which had been trailing after benchmark prices dropped earlier.
