BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on upside path as yellow metal rose to above $4,660 per ounce reaching a record high as investors flocked to safe-haven assets following President Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on European countries. Overall Gold (Feb) can move in range of 143000-145000 while silver (Mar) can move in range of 295000-305000.
- Trump announced on Saturday that he would impose a 10% tariff on goods from eight European countries starting February 1 due their opposition to American control over Greenland. The rate could rise to 25% by June 1 if no agreement is reached on what he described as the “complete and total purchase of Greenland” by the US.
- Bullion has already been on a strong upward trajectory this year following a robust performance in 2025, supported by political instability in Venezuela, renewed concerns over the Federal Reserve’s independence, and expectations of more US interest rate cuts.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper (Jan) prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 1290-1305. China’s cabinet discussed a package of fiscal and financial policies aimed at supporting household spending and investment, helping lift expectations of stronger metal demand in 2026.
- Prices were further underpinned by supply-side constraints, as production at Chilean state-run miner Codelco fell 3% year-on-year in November, while output at BHP’s Escondida mine declined 12.8%, tightening near-term availability.
- Aluminum (Jan) prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 312-321.while Zinc (Jan) may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 313-320.
ENERGY
- Crude oil (Feb) may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 5360-5460. Oil prices were little changed on Monday, after rising in the previous session, as Iran’s deadly crackdown on protests quelled the civil unrest in the country, reducing the chance of a U.S. attack on the major Middle Eastern producer that could disrupt supplies.
- U.S. President Donald Trump seemed to step back from his earlier threats of intervention, saying on social media Iran had called off mass hangings of protesters, although the country had not announced any such plans.
- Markets continued to closely watch plans for Venezuela’s oil fields, after Trump said the U.S. would run Venezuela’s oil industry following the capture of Nicolas Maduro.
- Natural gas (Jan) may witness lower level buying as it can move in range of 285-307.
