BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on lower path as yellow metal prices languished near a one-month low on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated it would slow the pace of its monetary policy easing cycle next year, lifting the dollar and Treasury yields.
- Overall gold (Feb) can move in range of 75700-76800 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 87600 -89000.
- The Fed cut rates by 25 basis points to the 4.25%-4.50% range and its summary of economic projections (SEP) indicated it will make rate cuts totaling a half percentage point by the end of 2025.
- Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that Fed policymakers want to see more progress on bringing inflation down as they consider the path of future rate cuts, as inflation has exceeded year-end projections.
- The dollar index rose to its highest level in two years after the rate cut decision from the Fed, making gold more expensive for other currency holders, while U.S. Treasury yields.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on lower path as it can move in range of 790-820.
- Weak retail sales growth in China during November highlighted reduced consumption, raising concerns about the metal’s demand. Additionally, Peru’s copper production in October declined by 1.4% year-on-year to 236,797 metric tons, impacted by lower output at major mines like Cerro Verde (-6.6%) and Antamina (-22.2%).
- Aluminium prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 239-243.while lead may also move in range of 175-180.
- On the supply side, the global refined copper market is expected to see a 491,000-ton surplus in 2025, the largest since 2020.
- Meanwhile, China’s copper imports surged to a one-year high in November, reaching 528,000 tons, driven by restocking efforts and lower global prices.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on weaker path as it can move in range of 5900-6000. Oil prices fell in early trading on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve signalled that it would slow the pace of interest rate cuts in 2025, potentially impacting fuel demand. Crude inventories fell by 934,000 barrels in the week to 421 million barrels, the EIA said.
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved California’s landmark plan to ban the sale of gasoline-only vehicles by 2035 and require at least 80% of new vehicles to be fully electric by then.
- The falls reverse much of the gains from Wednesday, when prices settled higher as U.S. crude stocks fell and the U.S. Federal Reserve cut interest rates by an expected 25 basis points as expected.
- Natural gas may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 285-295.
