BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may open on mixed path. Gold fell 1% on Tuesday as thin trading persisted across major Asian markets due to the Lunar New Year holidays, while a firmer dollar also pressured prices. Gold (Apr) can move in range of 150000-156000 while silver (Mar) can move in range of 230000-245000.
- Markets currently expect three 25-basis-point interest rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve this year, per CME’s FedWatch Tool.
- Elsewhere, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would be involved “indirectly” in talks between Iran and the U.S. over Tehran’s nuclear programme set for Tuesday in Geneva, adding he believed Tehran wanted to make a deal.
- Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister met with the U.N. nuclear watchdog chief on Monday, ahead of talks between Washington and Tehran aimed at resolving a nuclear dispute, with few clear signs of compromise from either side and the threat of U.S. military action looming.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper (Feb) prices can trade on lower path as it can move in range of 1170-1220. Combined stocks across the world’s three major metal exchanges have now crossed 1 million metric tons for the first time in over two decades, reflecting soft demand in China and recent stockpiling in the U.S. China’s factory activity weakened in January, and physical demand has slowed ahead of the Lunar New Year break.
- On the supply side, mine disruptions offered some support. Production at Chile’s Collahuasi and Escondida mines declined sharply in December, while Peru’s output fell 11.2% year-on-year.
- Aluminum (Feb) prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 305-312.while Zinc (Feb) may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 315-322.
ENERGY
- Crude oil (Feb) may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 5720-5820. Crude oil rose supported by renewed geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Iran ahead of a second round of talks. While Iran has indicated a willingness to make concessions on its nuclear program if sanctions are addressed, uncertainty remains high.
- Meanwhile, the Energy Information Administration reported a sharp 8.5 million-barrel build in U.S. crude inventories, alongside higher gasoline stocks, though distillates declined. China’s imports of discounted Russian crude are climbing, with February volumes estimated at a record 2.07 million bpd. On the positioning front, CFTC data showed money managers increasing net long bets.
- Natural gas (Feb) may witness short covering at lower levels as it can move in range of 275-290.
