BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on mixed path as gold prices edged higher on Monday after falling more than 1% in the previous session as market participants awaited more insights on U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff plans, which could heighten global trade tensions.
- Overall gold (Apr) can move in range of 84800-85400 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 94000-96500.
- Trump on Friday kept alive his drumbeat of tariff threats, saying levies on automobiles would be coming as soon as April 2, the day after members of his cabinet are due to deliver reports to him outlining options for a range of import duties as he seeks to reshape global trade.
- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday said Ukraine and Europe would be part of any “real negotiations” to end Moscow’s war, signaling that U.S. talks with Russia this week were a chance to see how serious Russian President Vladimir Putin is about peace.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on firm path as it can move in range of 860-878. Copper prices hovered around more than three-month highs on Monday, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for reciprocal tariffs, which will not be immediately implemented.
- Aluminum prices can trade on volatile path as it may move in range of 256-259.while lead may also move in range of 177-183.
- Trump’s plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on every country taxing U.S. imports have stoked concerns of a major global trade war.
- Short-covering on the London Metal Exchange (LME) ahead of the expiry of contracts amid expectations that U.S. tariffs will be imposed on copper triggered a sharp move in a key spread last week.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 6100-6250. Oil prices fell for a fourth day on Monday on expectations a Russia-Ukraine peace deal could ease sanctions disrupting supply flows and on concerns that global tariff wars could slow economic growth and weaken energy demand.
- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he believes he could meet “very soon” with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
- Sanctions by the U.S. and European Union on Russian oil exports have curbed its shipments and disrupted seaborne oil supply flows. Lifting the sanctions in the event of a peace deal should boost global energy supplies.
- The risk of a global trade war is also pressuring prices after Trump last week ordered commerce and economic officials to study reciprocal tariffs against countries that place tariffs on U.S. goods and to return their recommendations by April 1.
- Natural gas may trade on weaker path as it can move in range of 305-315.
