- Holdings of the SPDR Gold Trust, the largest gold-backed ETF, and increased 0.11% to 1,022.60 tonnes on Wednesday compared with Tuesday.
- U.S. officials on Wednesday criticized China’s expanded rare earth export controls, describing them as a threat to global supply chains, while signaling potential retaliatory measures.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper (Oct) prices can trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 985-1000.
- Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 264-270.while Zinc may move on upside path as it may trade in range of 285-295.
- Japan, Spain and South Korea issued a rare joint statement on Wednesday expressing deep concerns over tumbling copper treatment and refining charges (TC/RCs), warning both smelters and miners cannot develop sustainably under current conditions.
- Copper smelters worldwide are grappling with falling processing fees and shrinking margins amid tight concentrate supply and expanding smelting capacity in China. In June, some Chinese smelters agreed to process copper for Chilean miner Antofagasta.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade with mixed path as it can move in range of 5100-5250. Oil prices rose by around 1% in early trade on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pledged his country would stop buying oil from Russia, which supplies about one-third of its imports.
- Both contracts touched their lowest since early May in the previous session on U.S.-China trade tensions and after the International Energy Agency warned of a big surplus next year as OPEC+ producers and rivals lift output amid weak demand.
- Trump said on Wednesday that India would halt oil purchases from its top supplier Russia, and the U.S. would next try to get China to do the same as Washington intensifies efforts to cut off Moscow’s energy revenues and pressure it to negotiate a peace deal in Ukraine.
- Natural gas may move on subdued path as it can move in range of 262-274.
