BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on positive path as gold prices hit more than one-month highs on Thursday in early Asian hours after data showed U.S. core inflation rose less than expected in December, raising hopes that the Federal Reserve could ease interest rates further.
- Overall gold (Feb) can move in range of 78500-79000 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 91000 -94500.
- Expectations for more Fed rate cuts this year increased following the CPI data, and odds for an at least 25 basis point cut at the June Fed meeting.
- On the geopolitical front, Hamas and Israel reached a deal for a ceasefire in Gaza that mediators said would take effect on Sunday and include a release of hostages held there during 15 months of bloodshed that devastated the Palestinian enclave and inflamed the Middle East.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on upside path as it can move in range of 825-840. Prices of most base metals rose on Thursday, helped by a weaker dollar as soft U.S. core inflation data raised hopes that the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates further.
- Aluminium prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 247-248.while lead may also move in range of 174-180.
- The European Commission intends to propose a ban on imports of Russian primary aluminium in its 16th package of sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, European Union diplomats said on Tuesday.
- Russian shipments of the metal to Europe have already fallen due to widespread self-sanctioning by manufacturers. Any further restrictions would likely see only a limited impact on the market.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on firm path as it can move in range of 6900-7050. Oil prices rose for a second day on Thursday after a larger-than-expected decline in U.S. crude oil stockpiles added to supply concerns stoked by U.S. sanctions against Russian energy trade.
- Prices rose after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday domestic crude oil stocks fell for the seventh time in a row last week, the longest declining streak since July 2021.
- Global crude oil supplies are expected to tighten in the months ahead as fresh U.S. sanctions on Russian oil producers and tankers have sent Moscow’s top customers scouring the globe for replacement barrels, while shipping rates have surged too.
- The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, which have been curtailing output over the past two years, are likely to be cautious about increasing supply despite the recent rally in prices.
- Natural gas may trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 345-365.
