BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade with upside bias as yellow metal touched a three-week high on Monday, supported by safe-haven demand after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 30% tariff on imports from the European Union and Mexico.
- Overall gold (Aug) can move in range of 97500-98700 while silver (Sep) also can move in range of 113000-115000.
- Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the European Union starting on August 1, after weeks of negotiations with the major U.S. trading partners failed to reach a comprehensive trade deal.
- Investors now await the U.S. inflation data for June due on Tuesday for more cues on the Federal Reserve’s interest rate path. Markets are currently pricing in just over 50 basis points worth of Fed easing by December.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 883-890. Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange and the Shanghai Futures Exchange were range bound on Monday as investors assessed the impact of trade talks between the U.S. and its major partners and a 50% import tariff on the metal.
- Copper inventories in SHFE-monitered warehouses remained low, down 4% on-week at 81,462 tons as of July 11.
- Aluminum prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 246-252.while lead may also move in range of 178-184.
- Meanwhile, China will release trade data for June and for January-June on Monday, which will probably be positive news with the frontloading amid tariff uncertainties, a Beijing-based metals analyst at a futures company said.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 5820-5960. Oil prices nudged higher on Monday, adding to gains of more than 2% from Friday, as investors eyed further U.S. sanctions on Russia that may affect global supplies, but a ramp-up in Saudi output and ongoing tariff uncertainty limited gains.
- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will send Patriot air defence missiles to Ukraine. He is due to make a “major statement” on Russia on Monday.
- The IEA said that Saudi Arabia exceeded its oil output target for June by 430,000 barrels per day to reach 9.8 million bpd, compared with the kingdom’s implied OPEC+ target of 9.37 million bpd.
- Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry said on Friday the kingdom had been fully compliant with its voluntary OPEC+ output target, adding that Saudi marketed crude supply in June was 9.352 million bpd, in line with the agreed quota.
- Natural gas may trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 290-298.
