BULLIONS
- Bullions counter may trade on upside path as gold prices edged up on Thursday, as markets tracked developments in U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff plans, which could ignite a global trade war, while investors awaited U.S. inflation data due later in the day.
- Overall gold (Apr) can move in range of 85200-86000 while silver (Mar) also can move in range of 94500-96000.
- The U.S. consumer price index increased more than expected in January, reinforcing the Federal Reserve’s message that it was in no rush to resume cutting interest rates amid growing uncertainty over the economy.
- Investors are closely watching for the Producer Price Index (PPI) data due later in the day for further insights on monetary policy.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 855-870.
- Aluminum prices can trade on weaker path as it may move in range of 256-259.while lead may also move in range of 176-183.
- Aluminium prices were rangebound on Thursday as traders gauged the potential risks of a global trade war following the implementation of a 25% tariff on steel and aluminium imports by U.S. President Donald Trump.
- The Fastmarkets copper TC/RC (treatment charge/refining charge) index has hit record lows in recent weeks and was at minus $12.50 a ton and minus 1.25 cents per lb on Wednesday, compared with a TC of about plus $20 a year ago.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on lower path as it can move in range of 6100-6250. Oil prices fell on Thursday on expectations a potential peace deal between Ukraine and Russia would mean the end of sanctions that have disrupted supply flows and U.S. President Donald Trump’s intention to introduce reciprocal tariffs stoked inflation jitters.
- Brent and WTI fell more than 2% on Wednesday after Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed a desire for peace in separate phone calls with him, and Trump ordered top U.S. officials to begin talks on ending the war in Ukraine.
- Russia is the world’s third-largest oil producer and sanctions imposed on its crude exports as a result of its invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago has supported higher prices.
- Natural gas may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 305-325.
