BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 880-890. Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange and the Shanghai Futures Exchange were range bound on Friday, easing from an initial shock of the U.S. announcement of a 50% import tariff effective August 1, as the market awaited further details.
- Aluminum prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 246-252.while lead may also move in range of 178-184.
- S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 50% copper tariff to start on August 1 to boost domestic development of a key industry for defense, electronics, and automobiles.
- With so much copper already shipped to the U.S., a full 50% increase in the COMEX-LME premium may not be realistic, but a 40% rise is likely if the tariff is implemented as announced, the analyst said.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 5680-5850. Oil prices steadied in early trading on Friday following a 2% drop in the previous session that was driven by U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs, expected to hurt economic growth, and a cut to OPEC demand forecasts.
- The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in its 2025 World Oil Outlook published on Thursday, cut its forecasts for global oil demand in 2026 to 2029 because of slowing Chinese demand.
- Natural gas may trade on bullish path as it can move in range of 284-292.
- U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a 35% tariff rate for goods imported from Canada, starting August 1, and said the United States planned to impose blanket tariffs of 15% or 20% on most other trade partners.
