BULLIONS

  • Bullions counter may open on firm path as gold prices steadied after briefly losing ground on Tuesday as unexpectedly flat U.S. retail sales data raised hopes of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, while investors waited for key jobs and inflation data for more clues. Gold (Apr) can move in range of 156000-160000 while silver (Mar) can move in range of 254000-266000.
  • January’s nonfarm payroll data is due on Wednesday, with economists expecting 70,000 jobs to have been added last month. U.S. retail sales were unexpectedly unchanged in December, putting consumer spending and the overall economy on a slower growth path heading into the New Year.
  • Meanwhile, Indian investors piled into gold exchange-traded funds in January as prices soared, surpassing flows into equity funds for the first time.

BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper (Feb) prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 1230-1260. In February, copper prices are largely influenced by the Lunar New Year and the associated slowdown in demand in China. Additional pressure comes from a stronger U.S. dollar, which makes purchases more expensive for importing countries, as well as ongoing profit-taking by traders following recent highs.
  • Copper production from Chilean state-run miner Codelco rose 3.7% year-on-year in December to 181,400 metric tons, data from copper commission Cochilco showed on Tuesday.
  • Aluminum (Feb) prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 308-316.while Zinc (Feb) may move on volatile path as it may trade in range of 321-333.

ENERGY

  • Crude oil (Feb) may trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 5770-5900. Oil held steady on Wednesday, finding support as the market waited for direction while U.S.–Iran talks continued, with lingering geopolitical uncertainty helping to underpin prices. U.S. crude inventories rose by 13.4 million barrels in the week ended February 6, market sources said, citing American Petroleum Institute figures on Tuesday.
  • Diplomats from Iran and the U.S. held talks in Oman last week in an effort to revive diplomacy, after U.S. President Donald Trump positioned a naval flotilla in the region, raising fears of new military action.
  • Natural gas (Feb) may remain on sideways path as it can move in range of 277-295.
