- Overall gold (Aug) can move in range of 96100-97100 while silver (Sep) also can move in range of 106200-108500.
- On Wednesday, Trump turned his trade ire against Brazil, threatening Latin America’s largest economy with a punitive 50% tariff on exports to the U.S. and ordering an unfair trade practices investigation that could lead to even higher tariffs.
- Minutes from the June 17-18 meeting revealed that only “a couple” of Federal Reserve officials believed interest rate cuts could happen as early as this month. Most policymakers, however, expect rate reductions to be appropriate later this year, citing concerns over inflationary pressures stemming from Trump’s tariff policies.
BASE METALS
- In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on negative path as it can move in range of 880-890. Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange and Shanghai Futures Exchange were under pressure on Thursday, hovering near a three-week low, amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans to start imposing a 50% copper import tariff on August 1.
- Aluminum prices can trade on upside path as it may move in range of 245-252.while lead may also move in range of 178-184.
- Trump announced on Wednesday a 50% tariff on copper, saying on social media that the 50% tariff on copper would be effective August 1 and that the decision was made after a national security assessment. In contrast, the most active COMEX copper futures contract hovered at its record high, and its premium against the LME copper jumped to 26% on Wednesday.
- COMEX inventories are at their seven-year high, and in the coming days, copper supplies may be flown to countries outside U.S., easing regional supply tightness, and the pace will impact SHFE and LME copper prices.
ENERGY
- Crude oil may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 5760-5930. Oil prices dropped on Thursday as the latest tariff announcements by U.S. President Donald Trump were perceived by market participants to threaten global economic growth and demand for the resource.
- On Wednesday, Trump threatened Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy, with a punitive 50% tariff on exports to the U.S., after a public spat with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
- Providing some support to prices, U.S. crude stocks rose while gasoline and distillate inventories fell last week, the Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday.
- Natural gas may trade on weak path as it can move in range of 270-282.
