BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on mixed path as it can move in range of 790-805. Most base metals edged up within tight ranges on Friday, influenced by mixed macroeconomic data from China and the United States, but gains were limited by a stronger U.S. dollar.
  • On Friday, the dollar was poised for its best weekly performance in over a month, fueled by expectations of slow U.S. interest rate cuts after a larger-than-expected drop in weekly jobless claims.
  • In China, the Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing PMI nudged down to 50.5 in December from 51.5 the previous month, falling short of the market expectation of 51.7, suggesting a slowed pace of expansion.
  • Aluminium prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 237-245.while lead may also move in range of 174-180.

ENERGY

  • Crude oil may trade on upside path as it can move in range of 6250-6350. Oil prices extended their gains on Friday after closing at their highest in more than two months in the previous session on hopes governments across the world may increase policy support to revive economic growth that would lift fuel demand.
  • Factory activity in Asia, Europe and the U.S. ended 2024 on a soft note as expectations for the New Year soured amid growing trade risks from a second Donald Trump presidency and China’s fragile economic recovery.
  • In the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer, gasoline and distillate inventories jumped last week as refineries ramped up output but fuel demand hit a two-year low. EIA/S Crude stockpiles fell less than expected, down 1.2 million barrels to 415.6 million barrels last week compared with analysts’ expectations for a 2.8-million-barrel draw.
