BULLIONS

BASE METALS

  • In base metal counter, Copper prices can trade on volatile path as it can move in range of 820-828. Copper output in Chile, the world’s largest producer of the red metal, increased 14.3% year-on-year in December to 566,547 metric tons.
  • Aluminum prices can trade on mixed path as it may move in range of 244-254.while lead may also move in range of 176-182. Aluminum and copper prices fell in London on Friday under pressure from a stronger dollar as global markets braced for the threat of U.S. tariffs on Canada and Mexico as early as Saturday.
  • S. President Donald Trump reiterated his threat of 25% duties on imports from Canada and Mexico. That helped to lift the U.S. currency , making dollar-priced metals more expensive for buyers holding other currencies. It also inflated overall uncertainty driving more investors towards safe-haven assets.

 ENERGY

  • Crude oil may trade on firm path as it can move in range of 6350-6520. Oil prices jumped on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, raising fears of crude supply disruption from two of the biggest suppliers to the U.S., but the prospect of lower fuel demand capped gains.
  • Trump on Saturday ordered sweeping tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada and China, kicking off a trade war that could dent global growth and reignite inflation.
  • Canada and Mexico are the top sources of U.S. crude imports, together accounting for about a quarter of the oil U.S. refiners process into fuels such as gasoline and heating oil, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
