Economic Buzz: Eurozone PMI Slips Further
22-Mar-2019 (16:23)
The Eurozone composite Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) dropped from 51.9 to 51.3 in March, indicating a tepid growth trajectory in the first quarter for the region. Businesses continue to indicate that new orders have weakened, which mainly stems from export orders declining at a sharp pace. On abroad note, trade conflict between the US and China, possible tariffs on the auto sector and Brexit are weighing on global growth and could keep a tab on new orders in near term. Employment growth slowed as well. The flash purchasing managers' index for manufacturing fell to 47.7 in March, from 49.4 in February. The latest data shows that the manufacturing activity is now witnessing its worst outing in nearly five years.
