The WTI Crude oil futures are witnessing some profit selling as rising US output clubbed with continued demand concerns owing to a slowdown in global economic growth hurt the sentiments. The US-China trade tensions yet again made headlines after media reports suggested the US is pursuing criminal charges against Huawei for alleged theft of trade. This weighed on the European markets today and the WTI Crude extended losses to ease towards $51 per barrel mark. The counter currently trades at $51.30 per barrel, down around 2% on the day. MCX Crude oil futures are trading at Rs 3648 per barrel, down 1% on the day.

Meanwhile, the oil cartel OPEC expects demand for the cartel’s crude oil in 2019 at almost 1m barrels a day less than last year. In its monthly oil market report, OPEC noted that the production from outside of the cartel is forecast to grow by around 2.1m b/d this year marking a downward revision to average almost 64.2m b/d. Oil has edged up recently on rising equities and bargain buying but the slide in current session indicates that the overall mood in oil market is still bearish.
